A self-adhesive cut mask intended for the model of the fighter F-86F Sabre in 1:48 scale. The individual parts are cut exactly to the shape of the glazing and the other masked areas of a particular kit, so the laborious measuring and cutting of tape with a knife directly on the model falls away. The ADVANCED designation is the equipment grade of the set: compared with the simplest version it has a wider extent and covers more than just the canopy itself.
On jet fighters the canopy frames are narrow and run across a doubly curved surface. Tape cut by hand buckles on a curve, the edge ripples and paint creeps under it. A cut mask, by contrast, sits on the shape of the whole part, holds a constant width of the frame and leaves a crisp transition once peeled off. The result is moreover repeatable, so the left and the right side of the model look the same.
Lift the part off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it on clean degreased glazing and press it down with a soft wooden stick from the center to the edges. Go over the edges once more, so that no air bubble is left anywhere. Spray square to the surface, in thin coats and rather in several passes; one heavy wet coat gets under the edge easily. Lift the mask off while the paint has only just set, as a fully cured coat may tear the finish underneath away with it. Wipe any adhesive residue off with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol, never with an aggressive thinner, which would fog the clear part.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
