Techmod 1:48 MiG-23MF — a set of decals

A sheet of waterslide decals from the Polish manufacturer Techmod in 1:48 for a model of the MiG-23MF fighter aircraft. The set is aimed at machines operated by the Polish Air Force and besides the national insignia it holds the markings and lettering needed to finish a model. This is not a kit — the decals are applied to a model that is already built, painted and covered with a gloss coat.

The real subject

The MiG-23 was a Soviet fighter aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, which allowed the pilot to suit the shape of the wing to the speed of flight — spread for takeoff and landing, swept for fast flight. The MF version was the export form of the frontal fighter and it was used by the air arms of the states of Central Europe as well, Poland among them. In service the machines differed mainly in their fuselage numbers, in small service markings and in the shades of the camouflage finish, which changed over the years of service.

Application tips

Spray the model over with a gloss coat, so that the decals do not whiten anywhere along their edges. The small service lettering is best laid down last, once you have the large insignia and the fuselage numbers lined up. Work with plenty of water, draw off the surplus with a paper towel and press the bubbles out with a soft cloth. On areas with dense engraving and on the transitions between the fixed and the pivoting part of the wing use a softener. Finally close the model with a matte or semi-gloss coat according to the character of the finish.
