A masking set for modelers, not a kit. The package contains cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper in 1:48 scale for the Mistel S1 combination. In the New Ware range the EXPERT grade is above the BASIC grade, so the extent of the set tends to be wider. The particular list of masks is given in the instructions in the package.
The Mistel S1 is the training form of a composite combination in which a twin-engine lower aircraft carries a single-seat fighter machine on a structure. A model of such a combination is in fact a double project: you work with two airframes, two different types of glazing and two sets of landing gear. The extensive intricate glazing of the lower aircraft is at the same time one of the most laborious elements that can be masked in 1:48 scale, as the frames are narrow, numerous and irregularly oriented. The higher grade of the set is aimed at a modeler who wants masking covered over a wider extent and does not want to cut anything to size by hand.
Sort the masks before the work according to whether they belong to the upper or the lower machine. Wash the clear parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. With densely framed glazing, proceed patiently pane by pane and press the edges with a blunt tool. Keep the coats of paint thin: with a heavy coat a visible step forms on intricate glazing. First the interior shade, then the external color. Do not forget that the final assembly of the supporting structure between the machines is easier when both airframes are already painted; try the fit dry. Remove the masks while the finish is still fresh.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. Before buying, check that the masks match the kit you are building.
