This is neither a kit nor a part of a model but a set of pre-cut masking pieces in kabuki paper for a model of the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor in 1:48 scale. Kabuki masking paper is thin, slightly stretchy and holds only firmly enough not to pull paint off or leave adhesive behind when removed. Thanks to that it follows curved surfaces as well, and the edge of the sprayed finish comes out sharp with no cutting by hand. The BASIC grade is the lowest in the manufacturer's range, so this is the smallest extent of the set.
The MV-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor, that is, a machine with tilting nacelles on the wingtips. It takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter and, once the nacelles are tilted forward, flies like a turboprop aircraft, thereby combining the range and speed of an aircraft with independence from a runway. For operation from a deck it has folding rotors and a rotating wing, so it takes up markedly less room. For a modeler it is interesting for the large area of cabin glazing and the uneven framing, which is exactly why a masking set pays off most on it.
Degrease the glazing before masking and let it dry completely, because a mask does not hold on a greasy surface. Lift the pieces off the sheet with pointed tweezers or a toothpick and press them down in the middle first, only then pressing the edges against the frame. On curved surfaces it helps to warm a piece gently, as the material adapts better. Spray perpendicularly and in thin coats, because an angled coat will blow under even a well seated mask. Apply the color of the inside of the cabin first and only then the external shade, and the transition will then look convincing. Take the masks off while the paint has set but is not fully hard.
The set contains masking pieces only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
