A decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the maker Two Bobs, devoted to display Super Sabres. The product holds no plastic or other construction parts — you build the model from a kit you buy separately, and use this sheet to mark it.
The F-100 Super Sabre was the first American production fighter able to exceed the speed of sound in straight and level flight. The C version added to that the ability to refuel in flight and the option of carrying armament under the wing, which moved the machine from a purely fighter role to a multi-role one. The Skyblazers were the display team of the United States Air Forces in Europe; in the second half of the 1950s they moved on to the Super Sabre and performed until the early 1960s. Their aircraft presented themselves in a natural metal finish completed by colored bands across the fuselage and the tail surfaces — a look that on a model calls for a carefully prepared gloss surface.
Display schemes stand or fall with long striped decals. These are laid onto a curved fuselage in sections: first seat the motif in the middle, press it down with a soft brush and only then work it out toward the edges, so that it does not kink anywhere. Always support transitions over raised covers with a decal softener, and blot any excess water away with the edge of a tissue. If you are finishing the model as natural metal, count on a gloss metallic surface showing the decals up mercilessly — the slightest irregularity under the film will be visible. On polished metallic paints it is therefore usually necessary to use an intermediate coat of clear, so that the pigment is not rubbed off during work.
