Four painted motifs from the noses of P-51D Mustang fighters in a ratio of 1:48, among them Sweet Arlene and My Achin Back.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet concentrates exclusively on nose art of American North American P-51D fighters. Four motifs belong to it: Sweet Arlene, Jan, Iron Ass and My Achin Back. Each of them belonged to a different pilot and a different machine, so from one package you will decorate four models, or pick the one that suits the camouflage you happen to be building.
Fighters escorted bomber formations deep over the continent and a pilot sat in them alone. A sweetheart's name, a line from the barracks or a terse joke on the engine cowling was a personal signature that could be made out even from the machine alongside. On polished aluminum, which most machines of the D version carried, dark lettering also worked superbly and photographers loved it.
Application onto an aluminum surface has its rules. Metallic paint tends to be soft, so a separating gloss layer belongs on it before anything is soaked and laid down. Without it a polished surface is easily scratched while the printing is being moved. Let the water be lukewarm and clean, and rinse any glue residue off with a damp cloth after application, otherwise it will form matte tidemarks once dry.
The package consists of the printed sheet on its own for 1:48 size. A fighter kit, paints and varnishes do not belong with it and are obtained separately. Unused motifs stay usable for a later build, provided you store the sheet flat and away from light.
