Decals in 1:48 for the late P-47M fighter with its striking black upper side. The set is devoted to the personal aircraft of a Polish pilot serving in an American unit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M form came about at the close of the war as an answer to German pulse-jet missiles and fast jet machines. It received a more powerful engine with water injection and was by far the fastest production version of the whole line, even though it reached combat only in the last months of the conflict and with a single group. The 56th Fighter Group took over a few dozen examples and kept the type until the end of European operations.
Captain Witold Lanowski was a Polish fighter pilot who, after being removed from British squadrons, moved to an American formation and flew with it as a civilian volunteer, without holding a formal American rank. According to the manufacturer's data his machine with the fuselage letters HV and the personal letter Z carried a dark, practically black upper side and an unpainted metal underside, a combination typical of the group's last finish.
The contrast of a black upper surface and bright metal places high demands on decals. The white elements have to be laid on a perfectly smooth glossy layer, otherwise their edges lose their sharpness. We recommend painting the underside last, because metal shades scratch easily. Immerse the markings briefly and let them release on the paper, not in the water, so that they do not roll up.
For a collector this is an interesting item thematically as well: it links American equipment with a Polish fate and closes a chapter that most sets devoted to this group do not capture.
What is sold is a sheet on its own. The plastic parts of the aircraft are the subject of another item.
