Masks for the Mustang in the D version with the teardrop canopy. The box contains masking of the glazing from both faces and two sheets with stars in bars.
Responsibility details are not available.
The move to the D version meant more for the Mustang than just a cut-down rear fuselage. The new pressed canopy without bars gave the pilot a view that no production fighter had offered until then and, together with six machine guns and drop tanks, made it an escort machine able to reach Berlin and Tokyo alike. It was precisely this combination of range and view that made it the best-known American fighter of the war.
The box carries two glazing masks, one for the outer and one for the inner surface, and two sheets with stars in bars. Both are die-cut into self-adhesive vinyl, which can still be shifted while being seated before you press it down firmly.
On the Mustang in the D version the work with a mask is the least of any: the teardrop canopy is one piece and the framing is limited to the windscreen and the lower rim. It would seem, then, that the set has nothing to offer. The opposite is true, because on a smooth shell every unevenness is doubly visible and masking by hand with tape leaves a wavy trace there. Add to that the bare metal surface for which these machines became famous and it is clear why the national insignia are worth spraying: glossy duralumin mercilessly gives away the edge of every decal.
