Resin exhaust pipes for the late Pz.IV Ausf. J, type 2, in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Hauler replace the simplified plastic parts with a casting that has a crisp corrosion texture.

A set cast from resin, not a kit of the vehicle. It replaces the exhaust pipework of the late production version of the Pz.IV Ausf. J in the variant designated as type 2. The exhaust on a model of a vehicle is always in view, and at the same time it is the place where a plastic casting loses the most - the outlet tends to be blind, the seams run exactly across the cylindrical surface, and the fine texture of heat-scaled steel is practically impossible to hold in a mold. Resin captures these details without compromise.
The Pz.IV Ausf. J was the last production version of the Pz.IV medium tank, markedly simplified in order to speed up production. The changes also affected the exhaust system, which in the later batches gave way to a simpler form with several production variants. Telling these variants apart is exactly why the manufacturer offers the set in two versions - both fall within the same period, but the pipework differs.
Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry - that removes the remains of the mold release agent, under which paint would not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, never break them; sand wet and protect your breathing, resin dust is not pleasant. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). In color it pays to treat the exhaust separately from the hull: a base of dark rust, over it layers of orange and brown applied with pigments or a dry brush, and dark sooting at the end of the outlet. Fit the part last, so that it is not lost under the overall weathering of the machine.
