Seven color forms of the Polish twin-engine PZL-37 bomber on one sheet. Three machines come from the fighting of 1939, four from Romanian service on the Eastern Front in 1941.
Responsibility details are not available.
For its day the PZL-37 was a remarkably clean machine: a slender twin-engine mid-wing monoplane with a pair of wheels on each landing gear leg, license-built radial engines and a bomb bay that took over a thousand kilograms of load. The type name refers to the moose. By September 1939 only just under forty had made it into service and their combat deployment lasted a mere two weeks; part of the crews then flew across the border, where the machines stayed.
The Romanian part is tempting for a builder in that it changes the whole character of the model: the yellow Axis quick-recognition markings, different national insignia and the wear of summer service on field airfields give the same aircraft an entirely different face from the factory camouflage of 1939.
Given the number of variants it pays to cut the sheet up only according to the machine chosen and to store the rest in the dark, because the carrier film yellows in the light. The base under the lettering has to be completely smooth.
Anyone who picks one of the Romanian subjects should reckon, besides the print, on a different coloring of the leading edges and on heavier dusting of the landing gear.
