1:48 RAF Standard Fin Painting Mask is a set of self-adhesive stencils for spraying the standard color marking on the fin of British aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive stencils thanks to which the standard color field on the fin of British aircraft is neither painted nor applied from a decal, but sprayed. The stencil defines the shape and the dimension of the bands, the modeler sprays the individual colors one after another, and once it is off the marking stays directly in the paint layer of the model. The set belongs to a range of stencils for British aircraft markings and is not tied to one particular kit.
A decal is always a thin layer of film laid on the surface. On a matte or imperfectly glossy base silvering appears under it, on an engraved line it ripples, and its edge tends to be visible when seen against the light. A sprayed marking does not have this layer at all, so it looks like part of the finish, takes any weathering and cannot be damaged by peeling. In larger scales especially the difference is apparent at first glance.
The base has to be smooth, clean and well dried. First spray the area with the color that will form the lightest part of the marking and let it dry. Then cover the finished bands one after another and spray the darker shades, always in several thin coats. Press the edge of the mask down carefully and spray perpendicular, so that no paint gets under it. Lift the masks off in sections while the paint is fresh, and seal the finished marking with a thin layer of clear coat, which evens out the gloss of the whole tail surface.
The stencils are a modeling accessory. The kit, the paints and the clear coat are not included in the package.
