About product

Masking set 1:48 Reggiane Re.2005 (Eduard)

Pre-cut masks serve to make the glazing frames and the boundaries of color fields come out sharply and evenly, without the slow business of cutting tape with a knife directly on the model. The individual shapes are lifted out of the sheet, carried over to the part and pressed down. The material is a thin self-adhesive masking film that adapts well to curved surfaces and leaves no sticky traces behind when removed. The set is made by Eduard, a Czech maker of photo-etched parts, masks and kits based in Obrnice near Most.

The real subject

The Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario was an Italian single-seat fighter of the Second World War period. It belonged to the so-called Serie 5 fighters, powered by an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605 built in Italy under license. Compared with older Italian types with radial engines it had considerably cleaner aerodynamics and heavier armament. It entered service only in the closing phase of Italian operations and was built in small numbers, which makes it a sought-after and fairly rare modeling subject.

Usage tips

Before masking, wash the glazing in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry freely; grease from the fingers is the most common cause of paint creeping under. Carry the mask over with tweezers or the point of a scalpel, seat it dry and press the edges down firmly with a toothpick. Spray the paint in several very thin coats; a heavy coat tears as the mask is removed and lifts the edge. Spray the interior shade of the frames first, and the outer camouflage only after that. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry, pulling sideways at an angle rather than straight up.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want clean cockpit frames without cutting tape by hand
  • Builders of Italian fighters of the Second World War in 1:48 scale
  • Beginners who find masking glazing troublesome
  • Anyone looking to speed up the preparation for spraying

This is an add-on masking set for a kit you already own. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is a set of masking templates that you use when painting a 1:48 kit you already own.

Glazing masks are the basis. Whether the sheet also covers other areas, for example the wheel hubs, is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Take them off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling sideways at an angle and slowly. If the paint holds at the edge, run the point of a scalpel along it first.

They are intended for a single use. Once removed they lose both their shape stability and their tack.
