About product

1:48 Sopwith Camel SPACE - Eduard 3D decals

On a biplane from the beginnings of aviation the cockpit is open and you can see into it the whole time, so detail in the interior pays off. For that the set of the SPACE line offers decals with the color printed on and with a three-dimensional relief; they have no adhesive layer of their own and are carried over onto the cockpit parts from the backing paper by the wet method. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to a kit already bought. Check the exact make-up of the set and how much of the interior it covers on the packaging.

The real subject

The Sopwith Camel was a British single-seat fighter biplane of the period of the First World War. It got its nickname from the characteristic hump of the cover over the machine guns in front of the pilot. The concentration of the mass of the engine, the armament and the pilot into a short forward section of the fuselage made the machine exceptionally agile, but also a demanding aircraft that did not forgive mistakes in flying. It was driven by a rotary engine, in which the whole block of cylinders turned together with the propeller.

Gluing tips

The cockpit of a biplane tends to be made of a framework structure, so lay out in advance what you will stick on before joining the fuselage halves, because once they are glued you will not get inside. The base must be flat and degreased. Dampen the backing paper under the item with a sponge and a drop of detergent; do not dip the whole sheet in water. Carry the loosened element to its place with tweezers and fix it with white glue, because the maker does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue. Leave out the decal softener, which will damage the printed resin. Fill the wooden and fabric surfaces around it out with a contrasting shade, and at the end a matte varnish and a drop of gloss on the instruments.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of models of the First World War period in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want a readable open cockpit
  • Those who avoid painting microscopic instruments
  • Beginners - decals are friendlier than a photo-etched interior

The set is an accessory for the model. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Decals. The SPACE line uses a printed decal with relief, which slides off the dampened backing paper onto the plastic parts of the cockpit.

Before the fuselage halves are joined. Once they are glued you will practically not get into the cockpit of a biplane.

Tweezers, a scalpel, a damp sponge, white glue and a matte varnish for evening the gloss out at the end are enough.

The target kit is not stated here. The sets are drawn for a particular model, so make sure it matches before buying.
