Montex 1:48 Spitfire Mk.IX is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the Eduard plastic kit - an accessory for painting, not a model. It makes it possible to spray the frames of the cabin glazing with a sharp edge.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:48 scale. The package contains no plastic parts and no decals - it is an accessory to a kit you have already bought, whose only task is to make painting the transparent parts easier. The shapes of the templates follow the glazing of the particular Eduard kit.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the deployment of a new generation of enemy fighters. Into an airframe derived from the previous renderings was fitted a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage two-speed supercharger, which markedly improved performance at greater heights. The engine was given away by a longer nose and a four-blade propeller, and a second radiator was added under the fuselage. The version was supplied in renderings optimized for various altitude bands, which showed in the shape of the wing tips.
A masking set fulfills a second, less often mentioned function as well: once stuck on, it protects the glazing from overspray, from fingerprints and from scuffing during further handling of the model. It therefore pays to stick the masks on early and to leave them in place until the final varnishing. First wash the glazing in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry freely - grease from your fingers is the most common cause of a mask coming away after a few hours. Cover the gaps between the individual templates with a strip of tape or with liquid mask. Spray the frames in two phases: the interior shade first and, once it has dried, the external camouflage colors.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
