A set for spraying the canopy frames and the national marking on a model of the Spitfire Mk Vb in 1:48 scale. A decal sheet is enclosed as well.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the autumn of 1941 the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 appeared over France and British squadrons found that their main type had suddenly fallen behind. The Fw 190 climbed faster, was more agile in reversals between turns and had heavier armament. The answer was to grind the wingtips down to a straight edge so that the machine responded better at low altitudes, and to wait for a two-stage engine. A number of machines therefore finished their service with the clipped wing and in the fighter-bomber role.
On this aircraft the canopy frame has only a few straight sections and one curve, but it is exactly that curve that comes out badly by hand. A cut shape catches it precisely and the paint does not bleed at the edge. The set covers the outer side, so a finished canopy can be masked in a single sitting.
The sheet is best used only after the sprayed areas have dried and after a gloss intermediate coat, otherwise the edge of the carrier film sucks onto the matte surface and stays visible. Anyone combining the two usually sprays the large circular areas through a mask and leaves the smaller lettering to the decal, where a cut shape would be at the limit of legibility.
