This is neither a model of an aircraft nor a resin part but a set of printed interior elements on decal paper. The instrument panels, the side consoles and other surfaces are printed with relief and with the coloring already done, so they do not have to be painted or picked out with a dry brush. They are applied as a decal, that is by soaking and transferring onto the surface, not by gluing a plastic part. The result is a readable interior with sharp instrument markings, which in this scale practically cannot be achieved with a brush.

Use

• First paint the surface in the cockpit a dark shade and spray gloss varnish over it, as the decal then adheres better and no silvering is left.
• Cut the element out exactly along its outline, soak it in lukewarm water and let it rest until it can be moved freely off the backing.
• Settle it with a decal softener in small steps, as the relief print has to seat onto the shape of the surface without bubbles.
• Knock it back to matte once dry, as the matte varnish at the same time evens the edges of the decal in with their surroundings.
• The set is cut for the Revell kit in 1:48 scale, so check before buying that it fits your box.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the SR-71 in 1:48 scale and want a readable cockpit under the canopy without laboriously painting the instruments. It also suits those who avoid painting fine detail, because all the coloring is printed. More experienced modelers combine the set with an open canopy or a hinged-back cockpit, where the interior is visible.
