A conversion set of cast resin which turns the model of the Steyr 1500 cross-country car into the form with a box body for signals and radio service. The set is cut for a specific Tamiya kit; that has to be bought separately, and the package holds only the body and the related parts. Expect this to be work on the kit rather than merely gluing a part on top: the original rear section of the body is usually cut away so that the new body sits down.
Box bodies on the chassis of cross-country cars served in the Second World War as mobile workplaces for signals units. Inside there was a radio set, a work table and places for the operators; from the outside you recognize such a vehicle by the enclosed angular box, the fittings for antennas and the securing items on the sides. The Austrian-designed Steyr 1500A chassis with its air-cooled eight-cylinder engine was popular for this role, because it took long periods standing and running the engine in a dusty and freezing environment.
First wash the resin castings in warm water with detergent, so that the remains of release agent disappear from the surface; otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw rather than nippers, and sand wet with protection for your airways, because resin dust must not be breathed in. Level the mating surface on the plastic body and try the part dry for as long as it takes for the seam to disappear. It is bonded exclusively with super glue, and gaps can be filled with super glue and baking soda or with putty. Apply a primer before painting, so that the surface of the resin and the plastic is unified.
This is a conversion accessory for a build. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
