A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for a model of the two-seat Sukhoi Su-27UB in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to a kit. New Ware marks its sets with the grades BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT; BASIC is the basic grade of the line. The particular list of masks in the package is given in the enclosed instructions.
The Su-27UB has a lengthened, two-seat canopy with several frames and heavily curved surfaces. It is precisely there that cutting masks by hand pays off least: a small deviation in the width of a frame is enough and the asymmetry is immediately visible on a finished model. Kabuki tape is thin, sensitively adhesive and shapes well into curves; once removed it leaves no residue of adhesive and does not pull dried paint off.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry completely, lay the masks on with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick into the corners too. First spray the frames with the shade of the cockpit interior, and only then with the overall camouflage — otherwise a different color will show through from inside. Take a mask off at a sharp angle while the paint is not fully cured. The remainder of the sheet comes in useful for wheels or for small areas elsewhere on the model.
This is not a kit. The package contains only masking templates; the model, paints and glue are not part of it. The maker also makes further masking sets for the same aircraft in 1:48 scale, so before buying check that the set matches your kit.
