The Su-27UB is the two-seat combat trainer version of the Soviet Su-27 heavy fighter. The second seat sits behind the first and higher, so that the instructor can see forward over the student's head, and the aircraft kept its combat equipment all the same. The airframe is twin-engine, with the engine nacelles set well apart, with a wide center fuselage section and with a pair of vertical tails. Both cockpits are clearly visible under their glazed canopies, so it is worth investing time in fitting them out.
Colored interior elements produced by three-dimensional printing and printed on a decal backing paper. The elements go on like a decal: cut the part out, soak it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals would attack the printed resin. Printing gives the surface a three-dimensional relief, so that dial faces, switches and panel divisions stand proud in a way flat printing could not show. The extent of the set and the position of the elements in both cockpits are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
First get the surface under the element free of dust, degrease it and coat it with a gloss varnish such as Future or Tamiya X-22, because the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds precisely on that gloss. Slide the soaked element off the backing paper into place, check the position and only then press it down with a soft tool from the center toward the edges, so that no air is left underneath. On a broken-up surface a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Once dry, the element is hard to move. Finish both cockpits before you close the fuselage.
The set suits builders who want the interior of both cockpits done quickly and without picking out tiny dial faces with a brush. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
