The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter with a distinctive elliptical wing and one of the best known machines of the Second World War. The Mk.II version is one of the early production variants that followed on from the first series. On the real machines small service markings were distributed over the surface: warning labels by the moving surfaces, marks for topping up fluids, labels on access panels and instructions for the ground crew. It is precisely these details that often bring a model closer to the real thing than the bold insignia do.

The surface underneath should be smooth and glossy; on a matte surface air stays under the motif and the edge turns white. Cut the motif out together with its backing, immerse it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until it will slide. Transfer it to a dampened spot, line it up and press the water out from under it with a soft cloth. On uneven surfaces a decal softener helps. Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version: a self-adhesive film that has been soaked is ruined, whereas a waterslide decal can be soaked afterwards.
It will be appreciated by modelers who are building a Spitfire in 1:48 and want to take the model to the level where even the small lettering is right. The model, paints, varnish and softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
