1:48 WWII German infanty

German infantry of the Second World War, 1:48 scale

A set of figures of German infantry of the Second World War in 1:48 scale. In this scale the figure of a grown man stands just under four centimeters tall, so the figures suit aircraft models on a base as well as military vehicles built in 1:48 scale.

The real subject

A German infantryman in the field wore a gray-green uniform, a steel helmet of characteristic shape and equipment hung about his belt and straps: ammunition pouches, a bread bag, a canteen and a sheet metal canister for a gas mask. It is exactly this small equipment that makes a figure recognizable even in a small scale, because it breaks up the uniform surface of the clothing and gives the figure volume. The coloring during the war was on the restrained side and wear pushed it further into faded tones.

Painting tips

• Wash and degrease the figures before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• Lay the base coat on with an airbrush and work with a brush only afterward.
• Shade the uniform with a darker glaze into the folds and lighten the edges slightly, otherwise the figure will merge into itself in a small scale.
• Do the face at the very end and in several thin coats, because one heavy coat floods the features.
• Paint the equipment in shades of leather and canvas that differ from the uniform, so that it separates from it.
• Overcoat the finished figures with a matte varnish, because a shine on figures is distracting.

Who the set is for

For builders of military vehicles and dioramas in 1:48 scale and for aircraft modelers who want to place a crew or ground personnel on a base. Figures give a model a sense of scale, and a viewer sees at once how big the machine really was.

The package holds figures. The paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
