This is an injection-molded plastic kit, not a finished model. The 1:56 scale corresponds to the usual tabletop and wargaming format, thanks to which the model combines well with figures and terrain of the same size. The set belongs to the licensed range tied to the computer game World of Tanks, and the name covers two closely related types, the KV-1 and the KV-2. How many variants can be built from one package, and what is inside, is given in the instructions enclosed with the kit.
The KV-1 is a Soviet heavy tank from the beginning of the 1940s. It was distinguished by armor that was strong for its time, main armament of 76.2 mm caliber and a high weight, which put a load on the transmission and the running gear. The KV-2 is based on the same chassis, but carries a markedly taller angular turret with a large-caliber howitzer intended against fortifications. Both versions have an identical hull layout, torsion bar suspension and six road wheels on each side. Production of both types was fairly short, and the KV-2 was built in substantially smaller numbers than the KV-1.
In 1:56 scale the parts are small, so it pays to nip them off with cutters and to clean the gate stubs up with a file rather than breaking them off. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, otherwise the paint holds badly on the residue of the mold release agent. A primer from a spray can or from an airbrush unifies the surface and improves adhesion. Paint the running gear and the bottom of the hull before you close them in with the superstructure. A small scale stands up to higher contrast, so a slightly lighter base shade, a dark wash into the recesses and dry brushing on the edges prove themselves. Keep dust and mud effects with pigments rather to the lower part of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
