This kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi is not a model of a ship — it is a diorama add-on showing a shipyard dock in 1:700 scale. According to the name the package also holds photo-etched parts for fine detail. The dock will serve as a striking scene for displaying battleships, cruisers and smaller vessels in the same scale and turns a lone model into a complete diorama.
Docks were an inseparable part of naval ports — it was in them that large warships were built, repaired and rebuilt. A model of a dock makes it possible to capture a ship in this less usual but visually rewarding situation: during maintenance, arming or repair of battle damage. The structure in 1:700 scale follows the standard Japanese ship kits, so it suits models from Fujimi and from other manufacturers in the same scale.
Spray the concrete areas of the dock in shades of gray and bring them to life with pigments — rust, grease and traces of use look convincing. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and bond them with super glue. Small cranes, crates and figures in 1:700 scale will complete the diorama.
