Turned barrel for the Tiger II with the early turret in 1:72 scale from Aber, 8.8 cm caliber. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal barrel of 8.8 cm caliber in 1:72 scale for a model of the German Tiger II heavy tank in the version with the early turret. It is not a kit but a replacement for the plastic part. On this tank the long barrel with its muzzle brake is the dominant feature, and in a small scale the plastic one tends to be bowed and to have a blind muzzle.
The Tiger II combined heavy sloped armor with a long 8.8 cm gun that hit its target at long range. The first machines built received a turret with a rounded front wall; later it was replaced by a turret with a flat front and easier production. It is by the shape of the turret that early and late machines are told apart, so you have to choose the parts matching what you are building.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the turret as possible and drill the seating so that the pin of the metal barrel sits firmly without passing right through. Degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. It is bonded with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate, applied drop by drop. Fit the barrel at the very end of the build so that it is not bent during handling, and check its axis by eye from the front while the glue sets. In 1:72 scale, meter out the glue with the tip of a wire, not straight from the bottle.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
