About product

SX-Art 1:72 A-20B/C Boston with the UTK-1 turret masking set

A self-adhesive masking set from SX-Art for the model of the twin-engine Douglas A-20 Boston bomber in its B and C versions with the UTK-1 dorsal gun turret, in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but a sheet of pre-cut masks that are stuck onto finished parts and taken off once the paint is on. In 1:72 scale in particular that is essential help, because the frames of the glazing are so narrow here that cutting tape by hand is more of a lottery.

What is masked on this version

The Boston has a heavily glazed nose with the pilot's cockpit above it, so the framing alone takes up the largest part of the work. The UTK-1 dorsal turret adds a further glazed part, which is masked separately and whose frames run in a different direction from those of the cockpit. Besides the glazing, a model of this type also offers the main landing gear wheels, on which the dark rubber should end sharply at the rim of the disc, and the nose wheel. The contents of the sheet are not stated here, so check before you buy which of these items the set really covers.

How to use the set

Wash the parts, degrease them and let them dry completely. Lift the individual masks off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and lay them down dry, without water or glue. Press every edge down with a soft stick so that no gap is left anywhere. In 1:72 scale do not rush; the tiny frames ripple easily. Spray the paint thinly and in several coats; a heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge of the mask. Remove the mask shortly after spraying, before the varnish has cured.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of twin-engine bombers in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who want clean framing without tape cut by hand
  • Anyone interested in the version with the UTK-1 dorsal turret
  • Anyone who sprays with an airbrush and wants to save preparation time

This is an accessory for painting, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check that it matches your kit before you buy.

FAQ

It marks the version of the subject with a particular dorsal gun turret. Its glazing has a different frame shape from the standard version, which is why the mask is made specifically for this variant.

The contents of the package are not stated here. The extent of the sheet is not stated here.

Yes. This is only a masking sheet; the A-20 Boston model itself is bought separately.

Yes, working with masks is simpler than cutting tape by hand. In 1:72 scale the masks are very small, though, so tweezers and good light are worth having.
