A plastic kit of a small rail vehicle in 1:72 scale from UM. The designation in the name refers to the DTr armored carrier and to the Podolsk machine-building plant, where vehicles of this kind were produced. The model belongs to the extensive series of Soviet armored rail equipment that UM covers systematically in a small scale, so it can be combined with armored trains, flatcars and armored railcars from the same series.
In Soviet practice, armored rail vehicles complemented armored trains. They served to scout the track, to carry loads and to keep the line running where deploying a whole train made no sense. Structurally they were fairly simple vehicles built on an ordinary railway chassis with an armored body. Rail equipment therefore behaves differently in a collection than a classic tank: it makes sense mainly together with track, a set of points and station scenery.
A kit in this scale has thin parts, so it pays to clean the parting lines with a sharp scalpel and to cement with liquid plastic glue in small amounts. Finish and paint the chassis, the wheelsets and the frame before you close the body up, because you will not reach them later. Fix the base coat with a primer, unify the armor with a single color and add relief only with a wash and dry-brushing on the edges. Dust and rust pigments belong on the running gear, and a fine dust spray on the underside of the body.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
