An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet BDT-41 armored railcar in 1:72 scale from UM (UniModels). The package holds sprues with plastic parts, photo-etched metal and decals, together with instructions and a painting diagram. It is a smaller but detailed model of unusual railroad combat equipment.
The BDT-41 was a Soviet armored railcar developed at the beginning of 1941. The armor was welded from steel plates and the main armament consisted of a 76mm gun with a coaxial machine gun in a turret derived from the T-34 tank. The cars were meant for fighting tanks and enemy armored trains, for reconnaissance and for protecting railroad lines. Only a small number were built, and several of them took part in the fighting of the Second World War.
The smaller scale puts a premium on clean work with a thin cement and careful removal of the flash. Add the photo-etched metal where plastic will not allow fine detail. An airbrush, a base color and, for railroad subjects, bringing out the rivets and the plates with a wash are recommended. Finish painting the chassis and the running gear before closing up the hull; rust and dust pigments suit it well too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
