This injection-molded plastic kit captures the Soviet AT-1 self-propelled artillery mount. This variant of the boxing is supplied with tracks in a flexible rubber material, which are fitted as a single piece and do not have to be built up from individual links. The model is meant to be glued together and painted.
The AT-1 was a self-propelled artillery mount created in the middle of the 1930s on the chassis of a light tank. The design consisted in placing a fixed superstructure with an artillery weapon capable of indirect fire on the hull instead of a rotating turret. The aim was to get artillery support onto a tracked chassis that could keep pace with tank units. The vehicle stayed at a small batch and never reached series production, so it belongs among the interesting dead ends of interwar tracked development. That is exactly what makes it attractive to a collector: in a display case it forms a logical intermediate step between a light tank and later self-propelled guns.
Finish the running gear and the superstructure before you close the hull. Fit the flexible tracks only after the chassis has been painted; ordinary cement for polystyrene may not work for gluing them, and super glue is more reliable. Cut the parts off with a sharp knife and sand the burrs gently. Spray the base with an airbrush, apply the decals after the gloss coat, then a dark wash in the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Dust pigments on the tracks and the lower areas will give the model credibility in scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
