DK Decals 1:72 Boston Mk.III/V in RAF and SAAF service over Africa and Italy is a decal sheet for Douglas Boston light bombers in British and South African service in the Mediterranean.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet in 1:72 scale focused on the Douglas Boston light bombers in the Mk.III and Mk.V versions as they flew with the Royal Air Force and with the South African Air Force in the Mediterranean theater. It is not a kit: the sheet is applied to a model that has already been built and painted. The maker is DK Decals, a brand known for extensive sheets tied to a particular theater and period.
Boston was the British name for the American twin-engined Douglas light bomber with tricycle landing gear and a glazed nose for the navigator and the bombardier. In North Africa and later over Italy it proved itself as a day bomber sent in close formations against transport hubs, airfields, depots and ground targets; its speed and decent handling were appreciated. The Mk.V was one of the later versions of the series. Besides British squadrons, Bostons in this theater also flew with units of the South African Air Force, which showed in different camouflage schemes and markings.
Apply the decals solely over a gloss clear coat, otherwise a silvery veil will form under the film. Cut the sheet as close to the design as possible, dip it briefly in lukewarm water and move it with a brush rather than with your fingers. On riveted and engraved panels use a decal softener and draw off the excess water with the edge of a paper towel. Once dry, overspray with a matte or semi-matte varnish, which blends the edges of the film reliably into the surface.
The package holds decals only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
