This item is not a model of an aircraft but a detail accessory in photo-etched metal. The set is aimed at the exterior of a model of the C-141 strategic transport aircraft in 1:72 scale - that is at the features which tell most visually on a large fuselage and which injection-molded plastic handles only in a simplified way. Photo-etched metal has the advantage over plastic that thin surfaces stay genuinely thin and look natural at scale.
The Lockheed C-141 Starlifter was an American jet transport aircraft for long-range military airlift. It had a high-mounted swept wing, four engines slung on pylons under the wing, a T-tail and a cargo ramp in the rear of the fuselage, which allowed both loading and airdropping. The long slender fuselage and the large unbroken area mean that small exterior features show markedly on a model - and refining them is the point of this set.
Cut photo-etched metal on a hard support with a sharp scalpel or with special shears, not with pliers - otherwise the part will twist. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades, always along the marked score line. Degrease the parts before gluing, for example with alcohol. They are bonded with super glue; for positioning it is practical to use the gel variety, which gives you time to align them. The metal has to be coated with a primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint comes off during handling. Glue thin parts on only at the end of the build, after the main painting and varnishing, so that they are not bent during sanding.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
