Camouflage painting masks from the Czech manufacturer AML for a model of the De Havilland DH.82a Tiger Moth trainer biplane in 1:72 scale. A biplane is a special discipline for painting: the camouflage repeats on the upper and the lower wing and both surfaces have to match, while the fragile structure of the model will stand only a minimum of handling. Pre-cut masks make both easier, as you carry the pattern identically onto all the surfaces while holding the model in your hand only briefly.
The Tiger Moth was the basic trainer of the Royal Air Force and of many other countries. On this simple biplane with its Gipsy Major engine, tens of thousands of pilots learned to fly in the 1930s and 1940s, including a number of Czechoslovak airmen in Great Britain. Many of the aircraft still fly with flying clubs today.
Ideally spray the wings before the final assembly of the biplane cellule, as the masks stick far more easily to flat, easily accessible parts. On a surface imitating fabric with prominent ribs, press the film into the hollows with a squeegee. Spray at low pressure in thin coats and lift the masks off soon after the paint has become touch-dry.
These are painting masks, an accessory for painting. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
