The real subject

The Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerous version of the British Supermarine Spitfire fighter and was powered by the liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin V12. The tropical fit added a bulky air filter housing under the nose; it protected the engine from dust, but it cost speed and changed the silhouette of the aircraft so much that a tropical Spitfire is recognizable at first glance. Aircraft modified in this way served in dusty regions where an ordinary intake would not have lasted long.

What the set contains

A decal sheet in 1:72 scale with two marking options for the Spitfire Mk.V in tropical fit. Which particular aircraft the options cover, how the subjects are laid out on the sheet and which kit they are drawn for is given in the enclosed instructions; use them also to choose the aircraft you want to build.

How to apply the decals

These are classic waterslide decals. First seal the model with a gloss clear coat, because air stays trapped under a decal laid on a flat surface and a silvery rim appears around the subject. Cut the subject out close to the printing, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to slide freely on the backing paper. Offer it up to the model, slide it into place with a soft brush and blot the water away with a cloth, working from the center to the edges. Roundels that run over the trailing edge of the wing settle more easily with a decal softener. Once dry, seal the model to the degree of sheen you want.
