AML painting masks for the Dornier Do 17 Z in 1:72 scale. Masks for spraying the splinter camouflage scheme of the German bomber — the sharp edges that belong to this camouflage.

A set of painting masks from the Czech manufacturer AML for a model of the Dornier Do 17 Z bomber in 1:72 scale. German bombers of this period wore a splinter camouflage scheme of two dark greens with sharply angled fields, a pattern made for spraying with masks. The pre-cut masks give geometrically accurate edges and the correct joining of the fields across the fuselage spine and the wings, which is almost impossible to achieve freehand.
The Dornier Do 17 Z, nicknamed the flying pencil for its slim fuselage, was a twin-engine bomber with Bramo 323 radial engines. The Z version, with a glazed, widened nose for the crew, was the most numerous variant of the type and took part in the campaigns against Poland and France and in the Battle of Britain. After 1940 the type was gradually pushed out by more capable aircraft and moved to secondary duties.
With a splinter scheme the joining of the fields is the key: stick the masks on gradually and keep comparing them with the drawing, marking the corner points with a pencil. A sharp edge is helped by spraying square to the mask in two thin coats. Spray the lighter green first and the darker one afterwards over the masks.
These are painting masks, an accessory for painting. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
