The F/A-18F is the two-seat version of the carrier-based multirole Super Hornet. It can be told from the earlier machines of the F/A-18 series at first glance: it has a larger fuselage and wing, rectangular air intakes and more racks. In the rear seat sits a second crew member who operates the sensors and manages the use of the armament, so the two-seat machines also serve for training. Operation from the deck of an aircraft carrier shows on the aircraft everywhere the structure had to cope with the catapult and the arrestor wire, that is on the nose gear leg, at the tail and on the folding wingtips.
These are photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory to a kit. Etching is done from thin sheet, so the parts are only a few tenths of a millimeter thick. That is exactly the point of it: plastic shapes have to be thicker for production reasons than the subject would warrant in a small scale, and a metal replacement refines them. The extent of the set and the position of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are held in the fret by tiny tabs. Cut through them with a sharp blade on a hard surface and do not break them out, or the part will bend. Run the bends along the marked score lines, ideally in a bender or between two blades. They are glued with a tiny amount of cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire. Wash and degrease the metal both before gluing and before painting, because paint does not hold on a greasy surface.
