A photo-etched metal fret in 1:72 scale for a model of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc fighter. An accessory to a kit, not the kit itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter and its Mk.IIc version was recognized mainly by its armament: instead of eight machine guns it carried four 20 mm cannons in the wing. The machine was built from the start around a tube frame with a covering, which made it a tough fighter that was easy to repair. In the later course of the war, Hurricanes were used for attacks on ground targets and for service at night more than for air combat.
Photo-etch makes sense where the real part is as thin as sheet metal. Injection-molded plastic cannot get below a certain thickness, so an instrument panel, levers, placards, grilles or belt buckles look on a model like glued-on blocks. A metal fret, by contrast, really is thin and the detail is etched sharply into it. Which parts the fret carries and which kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, as the metal bends if twisted and will not straighten again. Make the bend along the marked score line in one pass, in a bending tool or over the edge of a steel ruler. Cement for polystyrene has no effect on metal, and what holds it is super glue in a really small quantity. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and run a base color over it. Cut the plastic part off the kit only once you have tried the metal replacement dry.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
