Fujimi 1:72 JGSDF 120mm Heavy Mortar Towing Truck and 120mm RT Mortar is a plastic kit of a towing truck and a towed 120 mm heavy mortar in the version of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
According to the name, this kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi contains a pair of subjects: a truck serving as a prime mover and the 120 mm heavy mortar itself in the RT version. The 1:72 scale matches the usual aircraft scale, so the model can be combined with dioramas and aircraft of the same size. The exact number of parts, the contents of the package and how many pieces of equipment are in the box do not follow from the name of the item; check them against the description on the packaging.
The 120 mm mortar in the RT version is a towed smoothbore weapon that the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force adopted as its standard heavy mortar at battalion level. Structurally it is a weapon with a baseplate, a bipod and a wheeled axle, thanks to which it can be transported behind a vehicle and brought into a firing position quickly. The truck handles moving the weapon together with its crew and ammunition. A combination of mortar and prime mover is a typical item of equipment in mechanized units, and in a diorama it reads convincingly precisely because it forms a logical pair.
Build and paint the truck and the mortar separately and couple them only at the end, otherwise the details under the cargo bed and at the baseplate are hard to reach. On the vehicle, finish the chassis and the running gear first and only then fit the cargo bed and the cab. At such a small scale it is better to spray the primer with an airbrush and to paint the details in with a brush. After the base color, bring out the shapes with a dark wash into the shadows and the engraving and with a lighter dry brush on the edges. If you place the model in a diorama, add dust and mud effects with pigments on the wheels and the underside of the cargo bed; on a towed weapon that looks the most natural.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
