This item is not a model but an accessory for a build. The contents are a self-adhesive masking film with precisely cut shapes for the parts of a model of the Phantom II in the C and D versions. The BASIC form is the lowest of the grades of extent offered, and therefore the entry point into mask sets for this subject.

The real subject

The F-4C and the F-4D are versions of the two-seat twin-engine jet F-4 Phantom II intended for the US Air Force. Compared with the naval versions they differ in equipment and in some features of the airframe. The model is usually built in the late gray or in the three-color tactical scheme, where a cleanly sprayed cockpit frame shows markedly.

How to use the mask

• First wash the clear parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry in the air, not by wiping.
• Move the mask with tweezers and press it down with the blunt tip of a toothpick, starting in the middle and working to the edges.
• Spray the interior shade of the cockpit first, and only then the top color of the fuselage.
• Spray thin coats and let the paint set between them.
• Lift the mask off while the paint is freshly dry, as the edge is then at its crispest.

For modelers who want clean glazing and do not want to cut tape into the curves by hand. The basic extent suits you if you are just starting out with masks.
