A raised rivet set from the Czech maker HGW for the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 model in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor spare parts — it is a surface detailing accessory that adds raised, that is proud, riveting laid out for the specific aircraft type. That takes care of a detail scribing into plastic cannot imitate: the real surface has rivets standing above the skin, not recessed dimples. The layout is worked out for the given type and scale, so there is no measuring and drawing from plans, which in 1:72 ends up inaccurate anyway. The number of sheets, the number of rivet rows and the rivet spacing are given in the manufacturer's instructions in the package, which also describe how to apply them.
The Bf 109 G-6 was one of the most widespread production versions of the German single-engine Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter. It was powered by a liquid-cooled twelve-cylinder engine, and the easiest way to tell it from earlier versions is by the bulged covers on the upper fuselage ahead of the cockpit. The airframe was all-metal and the surface carried dense riveting on the fuselage, the wing and the tail surfaces. In small scales it is exactly this surface texture that gets simplified the most — plastic molds usually only suggest it with engraved lines.
Work on a smooth, clean and degreased surface: sand down the seams and the traces of the mold parting lines first, and only then use the set. Proceed in shorter sections so that the rows line up and do not wander — on the fuselage it pays to start from a prominent straight line and work out from it. When you are done, seal the whole thing with a clear coat that anchors the riveting and evens out the sheen, and only after that move on to decals and weathering. A light wash or very fine drybrushing will bring the rivets out, but in 1:72 a hint is enough; exaggerated contrast looks unnatural.
