Masks in 1:72 scale for the moving surfaces of a model of the Mitsubishi A6M3 model 22 Reisen carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M, called the Reisen in Japan, was a carrier fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy, famous for its agility and long range. The model 22 came about as an answer to experience with the short-winged model 32: it returned to the long wing with folding tips and to a larger fuel load while keeping the more powerful engine. The result was the version with the longest range in the whole series, widely used over the South Pacific.
The masks define the outline of the moving surfaces, that is, the ailerons, the elevator and the rudder. On the real aircraft these had fabric covering, which differed in both shade and texture from the aluminum skin around it. Sprayed over a mask, the difference comes out with a sharp boundary that neither freehand work nor any other route will achieve. The extent of the set and the kit the cut is calculated for is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The surface has to be dry, clean and degreased. Lay the mask on with tweezers, press it down around the perimeter and spray in thin coats; a heavy coat tears as the mask is lifted and leaves a step at the edge. Lift the mask soon after the paint has dried, pulling at a low angle.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
