A set of pre-cut masks for a model of the French Nieuport Ni-17 fighter biplane in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The package does not contain a model, only a sheet of masks that are lifted off the backing with tweezers and applied to the parts of a kit. With aircraft of the First World War period this is a very useful accessory, because their glazing and color fields are difficult to mask by hand.
The Nieuport Ni-17 was a French fighter of the First World War, structurally a so-called sesquiplane, that is a biplane with a markedly narrower lower wing. This layout gave the pilot a good view downward and the machine its agility, at the cost of a less sturdy lower wing. The type was used by a number of Allied air services and became one of the most widespread fighters of its day. Its characteristic features are the simple fuselage structure, the circular engine cowling and the fabric covering, which on a model is usually emphasized with fine shading.
Degrease the surface and free it of dust before applying a mask. Press the edges down carefully, so that paint does not run under them. With biplanes it is practical to mask and paint the wings separately, before the struts and rigging are assembled, because once the cellule is glued together the lower surfaces are hard to reach. Apply the paint in several thin coats. Remove the masks shortly after it has dried, not days later, when the adhesive has hardened. Always leave tensioning the rigging wires until the very end.
The set contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
