The sheet covers the machines of the Australian No. 450 Squadron, specifically the Hurricane, Kittyhawk, Mustang and the light Auster. One sheet therefore covers several different types, which suits a modeler building a whole unit rather than a single machine.
No. 450 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) was formed in 1941 and saw action in North Africa, in the Mediterranean and later in Italy within the Desert Air Force. It flew Hurricanes briefly, but the core of its combat work was the Curtiss Kittyhawk fighter-bomber used against ground targets, and toward the end of the war the Mustang. Light Austers were used by units of that formation for liaison and observation duties. Desert Air Force camouflage was sand and brown-green, with a light undersurface.
Decals belong on a gloss surface — a matte clear coat has a microscopic structure that traps air beneath it, and a silvery veil forms around the decal. So coat the area with gloss clear first, cut the decal out as close to the artwork as you can and soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds. Once it is transferred to the model, blot the excess water away, line the position up and use a decal softener so that the decal is drawn into the engraved lines. Finally seal the whole thing with clear in the degree of sheen you want.
