A finished collector's model of the American P-47D Thunderbolt fighter. It is supplied assembled and painted, so there is nothing to glue or spray and the piece goes straight into a display case. It carries the markings of the 527th Fighter Squadron, which belonged to the 86th Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces.
The Thunderbolt was an exceptionally large and heavy single-seat fighter for its day. It was powered by an air-cooled radial piston engine, and with it went a turbocharger housed in the rear fuselage, to which long exhaust ducts ran. It was precisely this layout that gave the aircraft its bulky lower outline and at the same time let it hold its power at great altitude. Eight large-caliber machine guns in the wing and the ability to carry bombs and rockets made it, by the end of the war, a machine that escorted bombers and attacked ground targets equally well.
The model is finished, so give it a place out of direct sunlight and away from dusty surroundings. Handle the propeller, the antenna and the landing gear legs with care; they are the most delicate parts. Brush dust off with a soft brush, as a cloth would catch on the protruding parts.
A finished model is supplied. A display case, a stand and further accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
