SX-Art masking stencils for the F-100D in 1:72 scale

Self-adhesive masking stencils from the manufacturer SX-Art for a model of the F-100D aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not spare parts but an aid to painting a finished model. You stick a stencil to spraying that has matured, overspray it with a further color and once it is taken off a sharply bounded motif remains that is part of the layer of paint. The glossy edge of decal carrier film and the risk of silvering at broken places both fall away.

The F-100 Super Sabre was an American supersonic aircraft with a swept wing and an oval air intake in the nose. The D version was a single-seat fighter bomber with a larger vertical tail and an enlarged wing compared with earlier configurations. The type carried both a natural metal finish and multicolored schemes, in which a precisely run boundary between colors shows up most.

Use

• Let the base paint mature thoroughly, and only then mask.
• Lay the stencil on and press it down along its whole edge, so that the edge seats tightly.
• Spray thin coats with an airbrush at a right angle to the surface, never in one thick application.
• Take the stencil off shortly after the paint has set, while the film is not yet completely hard.
• Seal the finished spraying with a varnish compatible with the paint used, and only then weather it.
