Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c in 1:72 scale: a plastic kit of the British reconnaissance biplane of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This plastic kit in 1:72 scale represents the Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c, the British two-seat reconnaissance and light bombing biplane of the First World War period.
The B.E.2c was designed by the aircraft designer Geoffrey de Havilland as an exceptionally stable observation and reconnaissance platform; steadiness in flight was meant to let the crew take photographs, make notes and operate the radio without having to hold the controls the whole time. It was powered by the air-cooled Royal Aircraft Factory 1a eight-cylinder engine. That built-in stability and its weak defensive armament, however, made it vulnerable once the German Fokker Eindecker fighters appeared. The B.E.2c also found a role as a night fighter against German airships, and in that role one of the machines was credited with shooting down the airship SL 11 over England.
A biplane calls for careful gluing with a thin plastic cement and for patience with the struts and the bracing between the wings. It is a proven approach to add the struts only once the glue has dried and to rig the bracing wires from a fine thread. Bring out the fabric surfaces with subtle shading, and treat the surface with a primer first.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
