1:72 Sardinians Crimean War

Strelets-R 1:72 Sardinians Crimean War

A figure set in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R aimed at the Sardinian army during the Crimean War. It is an addition for dioramas and display case scenes, not a kit of hardware.

The real subject

The Crimean War was a coalition conflict to which, alongside the main powers, the Kingdom of Sardinia sent its army as well. It is precisely that which makes the Sardinian contingent interesting to a modeler: in one scene the units of several states meet naturally, each with a different cut of uniform and a different palette. Sardinian infantry tends to be used in building dioramas as a striking counterpoint in color and shape to the more numerous allies.

Building and painting tips

It is advisable to plan the set from the start as part of a larger composition. First lay out the terrain and the positions of the other units, and only then choose the poses and spacings; figures of soft plastic can be held temporarily with double-sided tape during building and the arrangement tried out dry. After deburring the parting lines, apply primer, as without it paint does not hold on a flexible surface. So that the scene holds together, unify all the units with a common tone of dust and mud on the boots and the lower hems, and only over that play out the different colors of the uniforms. Details such as straps and buckles need only be suggested with a thin brush, as in 1:72 scale contrast decides, not the precision of the drawing. Glue to the bases with cyanoacrylate.
