A masking set in 1:72 scale for a model of the British experimental aircraft Saunders-Roe SR.53.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Saunders-Roe SR.53 was a British experimental aircraft of the 1950s. It stayed at the prototype stage and never reached series production, so it is a type you will not often meet in a display case. That is usually the very reason modelers take on such a model: beside ordinary production machines it looks unusual and there is something to tell about it.
A mask saves work in the part of the build where mistakes are hardest to put right. Paint that has run has to be sanded back and resprayed, whereas a well-burnished mask leaves the boundary crisp the first time. The shapes are cut out in advance to match the parts of the model, so measuring, tracing and guessing how much tape to cut all fall away. In 1:72 scale that means a noticeable saving, because the masked areas are small and awkward to work on.
Transfer the mask to the model with tweezers or the point of a toothpick and press it down over its whole area, not just in the middle. The surface should be dry, dust-free and degreased beforehand. Spray thinly and rather more than once; a single heavy coat will spread under the edge of the mask. Once the paint has dried, take the mask off and wipe away any remains of the adhesive layer while they are fresh; after several days they hold much more firmly.
A masking set is supplied. Paints, thinners and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
