The Spitfire Mk.IIb of Sergeant Josef Balejka is a decal set in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AML Decals, devoted to the machine of a Czechoslovak pilot with No. 303 Squadron RAF.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:72 scale for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIb. The set depicts a machine of No. 303 Squadron RAF flown by the Czechoslovak airman Sergeant Josef Balejka and holds a color drawing of the camouflage with the placing of the identification letters and the national insignia. It is not a kit but an addition to a model.
The Spitfire Mk.II was the development continuation of the first production Spitfires, with the Merlin XII engine. The Mk.IIb version differed from the basic Mk.IIa in its wing armament, where in place of eight 7.7 mm machine guns it carried a pair of 20 mm cannons supplemented by machine guns. It was a transitional armament with which the Fighter Command squadrons flew in 1941 on sweeps over the English Channel and northern France. A number of Czechoslovak pilots served in RAF fighter squadrons, and not only in the purely Czechoslovak units.
Finish the camouflage on the model first, let the paint cure properly and go over it with a gloss varnish. Cut the decal out close to the motif, soak it in warm water and let it rest until it starts to slide. Check the placing of the large identification letters against the enclosed drawing, as their position differs from machine to machine. A decal softener will settle the decal on the leading edges and on the curved upper fuselage, and once it is dry, unify the surface with a matte varnish.
Decals are a modeling addition. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
