The set is an accessory for a modeler who already has a kit of the Tiger I in 1:72 scale. The resin castings replace the upper part of the model and give it the form of the Sturmtiger, a machine with a tall enclosed box superstructure instead of a rotating turret. The lower part of the vehicle, that is the hull, the wheels and the tracks, stays from the plastic kit.
The difference from the basic machine is striking at first glance: a compact superstructure with a markedly sloped front wall and a short large-caliber weapon set high above the hull. With this layout the Sturmtiger was extremely tall and short, so the conversion changes the overall outline of the model more than most detail sets do. That is precisely why this rebuild cannot be got away with by adding a few small items and needs a separate casting of the whole superstructure.
With sizeable castings the main theme is the casting blocks. The large superstructure part is held in the mold by a massive feed that is not to be snapped off; cut it with a fine-toothed saw a little way from the part and only then level the remainder. Sand wet: resin dust is unpleasant and wet abrasive does not clog, so the surface stays flat and no waviness appears on it. Under running water, check whether a bubble has hidden in the casting; fill small cavities with cyanoacrylate glue and sand them over together with their surroundings. The base is formed by gray primer, which at the same time reveals any remains of the parting line. Test the barrel dry and glue it on only once the superstructure is finished, so that it holds at the right angle.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
