A set of self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended to cover the cockpit glazing while a model of the two-seat Su-27UB in 1:72 scale is painted. The masks are cut from thin kabuki-type masking tape, so they follow the rounded shape of the canopy well and leave no adhesive when peeled off. It is not a kit or a set of decals: it is an aid that saves time and nerves compared with cutting masks by hand.
The Su-27UB is the two-seat combat trainer version of the Soviet Su-27 heavy fighter. The second seat sits in tandem behind the first and called for a raised fuselage spine and a longer, markedly divided cockpit canopy. That canopy is what makes the most work when building the model: the framing has more segments than on the single-seat version, and masking it by hand is therefore a long job.
Degrease the glazing before applying the masks and let it dry thoroughly. Lift the masks with a sharp point or tweezers and press them down with a cotton swab so that they sit tight at the edges. Spray the paint in thin coats, as a heavy coat runs under the edge and makes a step. Apply the interior shade of the frames first and only then the exterior color. Remove the masks while the paint is still fresh rather than rock hard, ideally shortly after the last coat has dried.
The set holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
