About product

Nozzle masking set 1:72 Su-35S Flanker E, parts G5 to G8

A narrowly focused accessory: pre-cut kabuki masks intended exclusively for the engine exhaust nozzles, and specifically for the particular four parts designated G5 to G8 in the kit. A sister set for the second group of nozzle parts exists as well, so the part designations in the name are a distinguishing detail here - check before buying which group you need, or order both. It is not a kit and not a set for the cockpit glazing.

Why the nozzles are masked separately

The nozzles of jet engines are painted in metallic shades, and those behave differently from ordinary covering paints: the pigment in them settles at the bottom, they are harder to spray over and they take subsequent masking badly. That is why they are applied last of all and the surrounding areas are covered before them. The segmented nozzles of the Su-35S also have a sharp transition between the movable petals and the rear of the fuselage which tape applied by hand can hardly follow on a round surface in 1:72 scale.

Usage tips

Mix the metallic paint thoroughly before spraying and apply it onto a smooth, ideally gloss surface - it loses its sheen on a rough one. Press the mask down around the whole perimeter so that the fine pigment does not get under the edge; metallic paint that has bled underneath is hard to put right. Take it off soon after drying, as dried metallic paint is brittle and flakes when pulled away late. Choose the order of work so that masking the nozzles is the last step before varnishing.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Su-35S in 1:72 scale who want a sharp transition on the nozzles.
  • Those who already have the basic set for the glazing and want to settle the engine section.
  • Builders working with metallic shades and an airbrush.
  • Modelers who do not get on with masking round surfaces by hand.

The set holds masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It does not. It is aimed only at the exhaust nozzles. Separate sets in the BASIC and EXPERT levels exist for the glazing.

They are the numbers of the nozzle parts in the kit that the masks are cut for. A sister set covers the second group of parts, so check which of them you need.

Last of all. Metallic shades are hard both to spray over and to mask, so they are applied as one of the last steps before the final varnish.

It is not. The package holds masking material only.
